DIY WOOD SIGN MAKE IT WITH YOUR CRICUT

Hey there crafty friends! Do you love those giant vertical Welcome signs on front porches?

Today I’m going to show you how to make one!

Let’s get to it:

Materials:

Black permanent vinyl

• Wood Sign

I purchase a 1x12x8

Cricut Transfer tape

• White exterior Paint

• Foam Roller

• 220 grit Sandpaper

Cricut Maker 3

1. Cut wood to size for DIY welcome sign

I used a miter saw and cut the 1×12 down to a 5 ft. (or have your local hardware store make the cuts for you)

2. Stain or paint wood sign frame

Before staining or painting make sure to sand your wood to a smooth surface! If your wood is bumpy and uneven, you’ll have a harder time applying the vinyl.

*Let the stain or paint dry for 24 hours before moving on to the next step.

3.CREATING THE STENCIL DESIGN

1. While your sign is drying, you can create your sign design in Cricut Design Space. Create a New Project, and then use the shape tool to create a rectangle that’s the same size as your sign for reference. Now, you can play with Cricut’s fonts to make a sign that’s perfect for your space. You can also play with the letter spacing and line spacing to make your words look exactly the way you want them to.

2. Once you have a design that you like, make sure to group all of the words together using the Attach tool on the bottom right.

3. Now, click “Make It” to send your design to your Cricut machine.

4. Apply transfer tape to welcome sign vinyl

After weeding, apply transfer tape to the decal. Once the vinyl is adhered to the sign, slowly peel off the transfer tape at a 45 degree angle.

Once the decal is on your sign, you can also add a finishing coat of polycrylic to seal everything in, but I didn’t find this step to be necessary, especially when using Cricut permanent vinyl.

Once your sign is finished, hang it or lean it up near your front door for all of the neighbors to see!

This was such a fun project and I’m so happy to finally be able to share it with all of you.
