Free Stuff!!!

I have been in search of a kids table and chairs for my grand babies for quite some time now.  I currently have three grandsons with two new grand daughters on the way.  Every table I found with room for at least 5 or 6 chairs was pretty pricey!!! I wanted a place where they could all eat, color and do fun projects together.  I was scrolling through the Facebook Market place when I came across the perfect one.  It was originally purchased from pottery barn and the best part was that it was listed for FREE!! Once I opened up the listing, I understood why. It was covered in paint.

Whoever owned it before really got their use out of it.  Well, that didn’t scare me in the least! Well maybe it did just a little bit. hehehe 🤣 I called the lady right away and she said it was still available.  I sent my husband right over to go pick it up. When he got there, he called me and said did you actually see pictures of what this thing looks like?  I just laughed and said bring it home honey.

Once it arrived I got busy to work. The first thing I did was get some pure acetone on a rag and started wiping off some of the splattered paint. I quickly realized this was going to take forever. I then took out my new sander added some 80 grit paper and started sanding away. I knew I had to take it down to the bare wood. I was shocked at how quickly the old paint and stain was coming off.

After about an hour of sanding the top was done, now off to start the legs. This part was a little more difficult. I had to make sure to get into every corner and crevice to remove the dark stain. I was determined at this point!

I finally finished sanding the whole table and my sweet hubby offered to add the Polyacrylic for a sealed finished look. This is what we used ➡ Click here

I knew I wanted to chalk paint all the chairs so it was just a matter of getting them all cleaned up and ready to paint!

I used Valspar ➡ Click here! chalk paint from Lowe’s. Remember it’s important to choose the correct brush. Cheap brushes leave streaks and fall apart. You are better off spending a little bit more money for a great brush you can reuse for the next project. ➡ Click here to see the brush I used. I loved the Purdy XL club angled brush.

It took two coats of chalk paint to cover the existing color but boy did they look pretty. Applying the wax is necessary to seal your paint and to add a protective finish. I used the clear wax Valspar ➡ Click here from Lowe’s. Remember a little goes a long way!!! Wipe off any excess with a clean cloth in the direction of the wood grain.

And now for the finished product!

DRUM ROLL PLEASE!!!!!

Don’t ever be afraid to pick up that free piece of furniture. I’m always amazing by the power of paint and how you can turn an old drabby piece into a fabulous one.

Let me know what you think?
