General Finishes Gel Stains open up a world of possibilities for revitalizing wood, redecorating your home by changing the color of wood cabinets, furniture and floors, and achieving an excellent first-time finish. These oil-based products are super easy to use and produce a ‘hand-rubbed’ look with little effort. Just apply with a foam brush or lint-free cloth and wipe off – heavy-bodies gel offers even flow and consistent color control. Recoat time is quick, and sanding between coats is your choice. Use the gel topcoat for extra durability and protection.

Many homes built in the 80’s and 90’s were covered in orange oak ceilings, cabinets and doors, mine being one of them. The thought of not having to sand all these doors, 20 to be exact and 4 sets of French doors, I must say I was overcome with joy. With that being said I rushed out to buy some of this gel stain and was ready to get started. General finishes comes in 11 different colors. I chose Java which is a beautiful dark rich brown color. Taking this outdated ranch style home to a modern farmhouse in two weeks. This was probably the easiest project to date.
